1964 Plymouth Sport Fury convertible

Works in Progress

Kerry writes: My project is a 1964 Plymouth Sport Fury convertible. Restoration has been going on for about 5 years.

Here’s what the Mopar looked like when I got it.

Now the body work is done, car painted, new top installed, Max Wedge scoop, new front end with disc brakes,
new 3:55 limited-slip rear-end, and more! I also added red-line 60 series radial tires and polished 5-spoke Americans.

Mike Swanson is building the 440 and 727 transmission for me. The top end of the engine will have numbers matching 1962 Max Wedge heads, cross-ram, 3447 carbs, original chromed valve covers and repro chromed air cleaners, Max Wedge exhaust manifolds, and a 3 inch repro Max Wedge exhaust system. The engine will be painted the stock Max Wedge orange color (actually super stock Hemi orange).

Also stainless gas lines and stainless brake lines are to be installed plus a 3-core “C” body air-condition radiator which was redone.

The seats were rebuilt/recovered by Mike Loyd with original style Sport Fury repro interior from Legendary Interiors.
All interior chrome plastic and polished aluminum plus ALL outside aluminum, chrome and stainless trim redone (at great expense!).
It is a frame-up restoration (or I should say unibody) with custom features. The interior is red with white panels and silver thread.

The Sport Fury will have a custom powerful stereo with red lighting and a polished billet steering wheel with red leather cover
(center matches the 5-spoke polished American style wheels).

My old buddy Tommy Mitchell is doing all the finishing detail interior work (working on dash now) plus the hard work of installing
the engine and transmission, interior, etc. Painter and body man Chuck Melloway and his staff did all the body and
very slick black paint plus numerous other details. Without all these guys I mentioned, this car would never have happened.

They are the best! Still a ways to go, but I hope to be cruising sometime in the summer of 2006. Depends on money and time as usual.

Keep up the great work on this great Web site. I’ll send more pictures when the car gets done (of course it is never done).

Update January 22, 2006

My “mocked-up” 440 engine with Max Wege setup
(uncompleted obviously) is set to get completed
and put in the car soon.

I will take some pictures of the more completed engine/trans and send them to continue to see the building of yet another '62 to '65 B body MOPAR.

Update January 29, 2006

We just got the engine and transmission together and finally got them in the car!

We overcame several problems and we are ready to rock and roll (well, almost). Still need to:
That is all we have to do (so maybe we are not ready to rock and roll just yet!).

More later as we get there.

Thanks Kerry!

Excellent job from you and your team on a very sharp Plymouth!

Look forward to the “completed”  pictures...and a test drive report from you.  smile!
