1965 Plymouth Fury III

Works in Progress

Bryan writes: Last May my buddy and I were doing our favorite thing: hunting for old cars. I spotted a 1965 Plymouth Fury III. Now I was thinking it's probably a four door, but maybe it's a wagon. When we got there and asked the guy if the Fury was for sale he said "Sure, go look at it first." I go up to the Plymouth and discover it was a two door. Then I popped the hood and found a 440 in front of a 4 speed with pistol grip shifter. The hood also had 1969 SuperBee hood scoops. So I go back to the house and go "is that car for sale?" The guy goes "Yea, I gotta talk to my nephew to see if he wants the motor." So I was going nuts for about a week: no call. So we stop back to check and he says "yea 100 bucks it's yours." 1965 Plymouth Fury III, passenger side So I pulled the Fury out of the ground. It had sat since 1984. I drug the Mopar down the road until the four locked up tires let loose. For some reason the frame didn't rust out. There are a couple of small holes in the floor and the Mopar needs quarters and trunk extensions. Next we ripped the heads off when we got home. We discovered that it wasn't locked up too bad. So I drug it down the road and had my buddy pop the clutch and two hours later I had new gaskets and the car running. The seller said the motor is out of a 1972 Plymouth Fury squad car, the four speed out of a 1969 Dodge Charger, the shifter off a Roadrunner and the scoops are SuperBee.

I'm exteremly happy with my Plymouth. Now I gotta get my brakes working and put on new shocks. I'm planning on driving it with the rotted body sections this year.

Update 2008

I put new quarter panels on the Fury, painted it, rebuilt the motor and added disc brakes from, I believe, a 1969 Dodge Monaco. I am not sure because the body was not exactly on it at the scrap yard, but they work! I rebuilt them.

Next up is a SureGrip, new windshield and all new weather stripping.

By spring 2009 the Plymouth will be back on the road for sure. I coulda had it done in 2008 but I got some wiring issues to work out.

Update 2009

We have all the windows installed; I do have to buy a windshield. I put stainless steel dual exhaust on the Plymouth. I installed the hood scoops and the headliner; guess it will be on the road by late May 2009. 1965 Plymouth Fury III, driver side
