Works in Progress

I recently bought a 1963 Sport Fury.
1963 Plymouth Sport Fury

The Plymouth is an original 383 Golden Commando car, with the 95k mile original engine still in it.

The Sport Fury runs good and is a driver, but has a little rust in passenger floorpan.

But I already ordered new front floor pans and carpet and I plan to build a new engine and transmission in the next year.

1963 Plymouth Sport Fury I really like this car
and it will be a street/strip
car for my son.

Great site.

Update November 2004:

I removed the 383 and am building a new engine/tranny combo.

The Plymouth will have a 400 with KB pistons and the MP .557 cam. I have the short block done and I am porting the 906 heads now. I also have the transmission done and plan to rebuild the suspension this winter. I hope to have the Sport Fury on the road next summer.

It’s a nice combo in this 400, as it ran 10.90’s in my brother’s Duster. And the engine will look just like the original 383.

Update August 2006

440 in 1963 Plymouth Sport Fury I had planned a 400 for my Mopar but it now has a .030 over
440 with the MP .557 cam and other goodies. The 400 went in my
boy’s Dart. I want the Max Wedge look so the Sport Fury will
get the crossram and two fours later when I have the money.
The Plymouth has 4.30’s in her and a Dynamic 9.5
convertor with a 4200 flash stall.
I just got the Plymouth on the road and boy does
she feel strong!

Update November 2006

I took my Plymouth to the track. I only made two good passes and the track was 1/8 mile. The Plymouth ran 7.48 @ 90.89 mph on its first outing. I figure the 7.48 comes out to 11.70’s in the 1/4.

1963 Plymouth Sport Fury, driver's side The Mopar hooked nice on 28 x 9 slicks with a 1.58 best 60 ft. 1963 Plymouth Sport Fury at the dragstrip

Update September 2007

I finally raced the 1/4 mile this week and ran 11.66 @ 114.65.

Update November 2007

The Plymouth went 11.52 @ 116.84 on November 24th — I will take that for now!
Thanks and congratulations on buying the ’63, Ron!

1963 Plymouths are among the best looking Plymouths ever made, in my view, and the top-of-the-line Sport Fury’s are stunning!

Great job with the restoration!   smile!
