1964 Dodge Polara

writes: My first car was, lucky me, a Slant 6, 1964 Plymouth Savoy. I bought it 14 miles out of warranty, in 1968, from the local (Flat Rock, MI) Chrysler Plymouth dealer. The Plymouth’s previous owner worked at the Trenton, MI Chrysler Engine plant. The only option on the Plymouth was the Torqueflite, but this baby was what I always wanted. I drove it for about a year and then my brother totaled it.

Bummer.

I took my father down to a couple of Chrysler dealers and found a 1964 Dodge Polara at Southgate (MI) Chrysler Plymouth. He wouldn’t let me (a heavy-footed 17-year old) have it because it was a 230 hp/318.

I sulked for 35 years before I found a beautiful, 3-owner 1964 Dodge Polara on eBay. I fell in love with the Polara and my wife allowed me to bid on it. I won the bid for the car, had it shipped from Long Beach to my home in Tampa and the Mopar has been mine for the last three years.

The Dodge needs to be restored but it is still driveable at 166,000 miles. Numbers match, engine and trans are original and, from the mountain of paperwork I got with the car, have never been apart.

The floors and cowl are solid. The interior is original and, except for the headliner, is in great shape.

It has been a long time coming, but I don’t believe that this Polara will be going anywhere soon  —  except possibly to a reputable shop that can help me restore it.

Thanks, Pete!

The Polara is well worth the wait! Enjoy!   smile!
