1964 Dodge Polara

Works in Progress

Glenn writes from Sweden:

My 1964 Dodge Polara sold new in Sweden in 1964.

Now the Mopar will race in Stock I / SA with a not-so-common 383 cubic inch / 330 horsepower (classified to 280 hp by NHRA) with an index of 12.60’s. I don’t have a clue if it will be a good combination, but we are accustomed to take what we have here and try it out. Plus it fits my budget better with a 383 c.i. as there are blocks and heads here in Sweden!

This project is under construction under my hands with help from many other drivers here in Sweden and parts suppliers here and in the USA, all too many to name and inadvertently forget some. So thanks to everyone I have involved!

1964 Dodge rear undercarrage The engine is under construction with a short block from Muscle Motors in Michigan. The 383 will be shipped to Sweden in late September 2005. The cylinder heads and intake are from a Swedish company. The 8 and 3/4" rear end, with most items from Mark Williams, includes gun drilled axles, steel caps, lightened Richmond Gear and aluminium spool, axle banjo braced and with new bigger ends to match bigger axles, all welded and straightened in my garage. Caltracs and monoleafs (and lot of other parts, thanks Art!) from Mancini Racing, MI.
The 5-point cage in Chrome-moly steel is TIG-welded, a new experience for me and not as easy as I thought — but I think it will be okay at tech inspection! A lot of rust was repaired in the front wall, floor and cowl panel; there's still some rust left I have not yet had time to repair and don’t yet have the parts to use to repair them, e.g., the usual rear outer wheel. (Any tips where to buy that?) 1964 Dodge driver side interior

The Dodge will compete in 2006 in the Scandinavian series. Sweden and Finland have been using the NHRA rulebook (with permission from the NHRA) since about 1988. I previously drag raced between 1985-1990 with a 1966 Plymouth Satellite in Modified Stock (as translated from Swedish).

1964 Dodge rear view Sixteen years ago I was behind the steering wheel looking at the Christmas tree.

When I hit the drag strip again in 2006 it will be a big day for me!

Thanks Glenn!

Very nice project!

We'll look forward to your 1/4 mile fun!   smile!
